EMA Engineers recently completed a complete structural peer review and redesign of a multi-office retail center in central Florida. Our engineers used state-of-the-art- finite element software to evaluate, and peer checks the whole design, which was found to be deficient considering the occasional partially saturated soils at the job site. The footings and retaining walls were redesigned and repaired. All the interior cracks in the slab were investigated and found to be due to construction defects and inadequate steel for torsion of the slab. The repairs were completed successfully.
